The Forestry Ministry, agribusiness company PT SMART and pulp and
paper producer Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) on Monday announced a
partnership with the non-profit organization Orangutan Foundation
International (OFI), creating a joint program to protect orangutans.
The
two-year program, Friends of Orangutan, will support the release of 40
orangutans back into their original habitat, as well as supporting the
treatment of 330 orangutans at the PFI treatment center.
Forestry
Minister Zulkifli Hasan lauded the partnership, saying he hoped it
would set a new standard for cooperation among the government, private
sector and public to protect orangutans and other protected animals in
Indonesia, kompas.com reported.
